Wanja Mbuthia

Board Member

Wanja Mbuthia is a storyteller, educator, and strategic communications specialist whose work sits at the intersection of media, gender, and health. She is an Audience Engagement Officer for the Gender, Health, and Climate desks at Nation Media Group, where she shapes public discourse on some of Kenya’s most pressing issues—from maternal health and climate resilience to gender-based violence and safeguarding.


Beyond the newsroom, Wanja is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, where she lectures on Gender and Climate issues in International Relations, mentoring the next generation of African leaders. Her work is driven by a deep belief that stories, when told with dignity and accuracy, can dismantle stigma, shift narratives, and drive systemic change.


Wanja holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Challenges from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and a Master of Arts in Development Communication from the University of Nairobi.


A passionate advocate for mental wellbeing, she is committed to strengthening safeguarding practices and promoting holistic care—because she believes that healing and protection are collective endeavors that empower individuals and communities.
